How to Make a Personal Altar for Confidence and Spirituality All Year Long

Have you ever just felt like one season just leads into the next and nothing seems to change for you? What Is an Altar?

Before we get started let's talk a bit about what an altar is. An altar is a sacred space used for spiritual practices and rituals. It serves as a powerful focal point for meditation, prayer, honoring deities or ancestors, and expressing intentions. Creating a personal altar in your home allows you to designate an area solely for spiritual connection and reflection.

Your altar will provide a sacred space devoted to you in building your spiritual growth and confidence. It's a place that you can retreat to and return to anytime you feel the need throughout the day. 

You don't need a lot of space to create an altar. You just want to be sure to choose a corner of your home that feels peaceful to you. This can be a small table, cupboard, or possibly even a small shelf on a wall in your home.

How Often Should I Work with My Altar?

It's always best to pick at least two times of the day to dedicate time to your practice at your altar. If possible, choose a time that you know will work for you every day. When it becomes a part of your daily routine it will be much easier not to forget to do it every day.

What Should I Put on a Personal Altar?

You may be wondering what I should put on my altar. That's the fun part about it—you can put almost anything you like on your altar! But we are going to explore some ideas around two areas: personal growth altars that build confidence and spiritual altars that deepen your connection to the higher realms and to the universe around you at different seasons of the year.

For everyone this will be a bit different because your altar is a reflection of your own personal growth. As you advance spiritually and gain confidence, you will adjust your altar to fit your own personal needs through the changing seasons of the year. Your altar should be a place that feels inviting to you, a place that you love to visit.   

Personal Growth Altar Ideas

Let's explore a few personal growth ideas for your altar to build your confidence. Crystals make wonderful and beautiful additions to any altar. A few that are very helpful in building confidence include tiger's eye, amethyst, and rose quartz. You may feel inspired to place one or all of these on your altar. I would suggest getting familiar with each stone and seeing what ones resonate with you.

Scent can be a powerful part of your altar. Some great essential oils for self-love are lavender, frankincense, rose, bergamot. A metaphysical store near you might carry a heart chakra blend of oils you could use as well. You may also like to light some incense. A few great ones for confidence are jasmine and sandalwood (which would also be at home on a spiritual altar). Writing down quotes of inspiration and placing them on your altar are also a great way to build confidence. Building up self-love always adds to your confidence level. 

Spiritual Altar Ideas

Now let's look into some spiritual ideas for your altar. Pick a card out of one of your favorite decks and place it on your altar. It can come from an angel deck, oracle deck, or tarot card deck. All that matters is that the image speaks to you on a spiritual level.

You can also place images or statues of spiritual teachers or leaders. Include cards or papers with personal affirmations on them. Any symbolism that holds spiritual meaning for you would be good to add. Also, you can make some space for a candle, which often represents the element of fire. It can create calming and a connection to the divine to your altar. A little water in a small cup added to your altar will represent the element of water, which is often linked to emotions and intuition. Crystals that resonate with divine energy can represent the element of earth. Spiritually uplifting incense, like frankincense, copal, or myrrh can represent the element of air.

A Summer Themed Altar

Now that we are in the summer season, let's dive in together to look at an example of a summer themed altar. First be sure to physically clean your altar space and give it a good energetic cleansing using sage smudging or another method of energy clearing. Then add some fresh cut flowers of your choice. I used sunflowers because they represent loyalty, joy, and optimism.

Now let's add a few crystals that resonate with summer energy. Sunstone is a great addition. It's been known to lift depression. You can also use carnelian, which both harnesses the energy of the summer and helps you to blossom with confidence. You may also like to write down some of your summer dreams that you would like to experience throughout the summer season. Place these in a special box on your altar to keep them safe. You can open this box when you work at your altar to reflect on those dreams any time you’d like. I decided to write about a beach adventure that I would like to manifest.
