Do Your Dreams Have Meaning? by Psychic Jane

The mind works in mysterious ways.
The mind works in mysterious ways.

Have you ever woken up from a dream, scratching your head and wondering, "What on earth was that all about?" You're not alone. Many of us find ourselves pondering whether all dreams have deep meaning or if some are just, well, random brain blips. I’ll share an example from my own life.

What the Heck was that Dream About? aka The Pickle Dream Dilemma

In my house we refer to them as “pickle dreams.” The dreams where you wake up thinking, “What the heck was that about?” and spend the rest of the day remembering snippets, asking yourself what kind of weird message spirit trying to give you. Let me give you some background.

My youngest son, who is 4, is very open and curious about Spirit and all things connected to Spirit. It makes for some really interesting conversations. A few months back, as he was laying down for sleep, he looked over at me sitting next to his bed and said, “Mom I don’t want to dream about pickles anymore, I don’t know what the angels are trying to tell me and I’m bored and want a new dream. Can you tell them no more pickles?”

He wasn’t clear about how pickles played into his dreams other than a passing reference to dancing pickles, just that he wanted no more “pickle dreams.” After laughing inside a little at the fact that he assumes that mom can get Spirit to do whatever she wants, I was intrigued. He assumed that because it was a dream it must have some deeper meaning.

In talking to him though, I realized my mistake. When talking about dreams I had always emphasized the spiritual aspects. Communication from Spirit and clarity is often given through our dreams. And yes, Spirit is able to use our subconscious and metaphorical imagery to convey deep truths and important messages.

Let me backtrack a little. I have a rather large garden and we had an overabundance of cucumbers this year. So for the previous week I had canned close to 50 jars of pickles. Our whole house smelled like vinegar and pickles. I suppose that a pickle dream could represent transformation, or perhaps spirit might want to tell someone that even though their contribution is small they actually have a big impact (think how much better a hamburger tastes with really good pickles on it).

But then again, sometimes a pickle is just a pickle.

When Dreams Are Just Dreams

Not every dream is a coded message from the universe or your subconscious. Here are some signs that your dream might simply be processing the events of your day:

  1. It mirrors recent activities or conversations
  2. It features mundane objects or situations you've recently encountered
  3. The emotions in the dream match your current mood or stress levels
  4. The dream lacks any profound symbolism or recurring themes

In the case of the pickle dreams, it's pretty clear that the family's pickle-canning marathon influenced my son’s nighttime visions. After a week of our house being filled to the brim with all things pickle, is it really that surprising that my family had even begun to dream about pickles? I still laugh thinking about it. Sometimes it really can be just our brain working out the information from our day.

So, before you start hunting for deep meaning in every dream, consider whether it might just be your brain's way of sorting through recent experiences.

When Dreams Might Have Deeper Meaning

But hold on! Don't dismiss all your dreams as meaningless just yet. Many people believe that some dreams do indeed have deep meaning and can offer valuable insights. Sometimes a dream is more than it seems to be on the surface. Here are some signs that your dream might be more than just random neurons firing:

  1. It features recurring symbols or themes.
  2. You wake up with a strong emotional response
  3. The dream feels particularly vivid or real
  4. It contains symbols or scenarios that seem unrelated to your daily life
  5. You have a gut feeling that the dream is trying to tell you something

In these cases, your dreams might be a conduit for messages from your subconscious or even the spiritual realm. Many cultures and belief systems hold that dreams can be a way for guides or higher powers to communicate with us.

Dream Journaling

Keeping a Dream Journal: Your Key to Understanding

So, how can you tell if your dreams have deep meaning or if they're just nightly reruns of your day? One powerful tool is keeping a dream journal. Here's how to get started:

  1.  Keep a notebook and pen by your bed
  2. Write down your dreams immediately upon waking
  3. Include as many details as you can remember, no matter how small
  4. Note your emotions during and after the dream
  5. Look for patterns or recurring themes over time

By tracking your dreams, you might start to notice connections between your waking life and your dream world. This can help you discern which dreams might have deeper meaning and which are simply processing daily events.

Many times, it really is our angels or guides trying to impart information to us that will benefit and help us on this mortal journey. The challenge for most people is to figure out which is which. I think my son’s example benefits us all.

When you aren’t sure what it is, ask spirit and ask someone on this plane whom you trust. It might be a family member or a trusted advisor at PathForward psychics. We have a number of advisors who are truly gifted at dream interpretation. Either way, getting feedback from someone can help you interpret the message and receive insight, or maybe just see that a pickle is just a pickle.
