PLANTING INTENTIONS FOR THE
SPRING EQUINOX
The spring equinox on March 20 marks the beginning of an invigorating season of growth. The day is perfectly divided into equal periods of light and dark, making this the ideal time to bid goodbye to things of the past and embrace new intentions. Here are some rituals you can perform to plant fresh intentions for the spring season.
Plant a Garden of Intentions
Spring is an obvious time for growth. Planting a garden on or around the equinox is a great way to immerse yourself in the creative energies of the season. You can take this a step further by actually planting your intentions.
Set your intention for the coming season. Find a quiet place in the sunshine to meditate on your intention and fully visualize it.
Write your intention down on a piece of seed paper.
Prepare a garden plot or flower pot with rich soil.
Plant the seed paper while you focus on the first steps to manifesting your intention.
Cover the paper with dirt and hold your hands over the spot as you picture the entire process of fully realizing your intention.
Water the spot and take care for it mindfully as the seeds sprout, revisiting this intention in your mind every time you tend the plant.
Create an Altar for Growth
A spring equinox altar is a dedicated space for items that celebrate and manifest the unique energies of the season. As the halfway point between solstices, the spring equinox marks a period of lengthening days, warming weather, fertility, new beginnings, and growth. Set up an altar with items that are related to these themes like:
A Bird's Nest
Eggs
Beeswax Candles
Seeds
Flowers, particularly lilies, daffodils, tulips, violets, or crocuses.
Figures of baby animals like rabbits or lambs
Crystals, particularly rose quartz, moonstone, and aquamarine.
Herbs, particularly lemon balm, thyme, tarragon, and marjoram.
Sit at your altar while meditating on your intentions for the season, journalling, or doing energy work. Cultivate an energy of creative growth, excitement, and potential in this space.
Chart Your Growth on the Equinox
The spring equinox is a powerful time for setting intentions. If you're a detail-oriented person, one way to do this is to chart your course in detail so you can fully visualize all the steps from the present to your full manifestation.
Step 1
Get a large piece of posterboard, markers, colored pens, and other crafting materials.
Step 2
Write down your ultimate goal for this time next year at the top. Create a vision board around it if desired to fully visualize what you want.
Step 3
Draw a line extending downward from the goal. At the bottom of the paper, you have your current situation.
Step 4
Divide the line into quarters to mark each of the seasons leading up to the next spring equinox.
Step 5
Write down stepping stones to your goal that you will achieve on the summer solstice, fall equinox, and winter solstice. Note smaller steps that you need to take in between those seasonal markers.
Step 6
Decorate your chart with photos, images, drawings, or other items to create a vivid poster of your path to success.
Dissolve Old Patterns
To make room for new growth in spring, we often have to let go of holdovers from the past that are taking up space in our lives. This ritual focuses on washing away the barriers to your future growth.
On a piece of paper, use a marker to write down obstacles on your path to growth. This may include bad habits, toxic relationships, or limiting beliefs.
Fold up the paper and thank these things for the place they held in your life and the lessons they taught you. Give the paper a kiss and place it in a glass of water.
Wait a few days for the writing on the paper to fade. Take the contents from the glass and bury them in the ground.
Lastly, as you light a candle, visualize your new habits, activities, and beliefs taking root into your life. You're ready to move forward.
