PathForward welcomes you to tune out the noises of the day and tune in to our tranquil guided mediation series, The Mindful Path. Breathe in, breathe out and let’s begin.
Episode 3
Accepting change can be one of the hardest things to do, even though change is a natural part of life. As the leaves fall in autumn and flowers bloom in this spring, we can't help but be reminded that one of Mother Nature's greatest lessons is that things shift seasonally every year.

Today let us focus on change. You might have heard the saying: “That the only constant in life is change”. And, I understood this on a deeper level recently when one of my teachers gave a sermon about suffering. She said that "suffering is in our unwillingness to accept that things are not permanent”. And, so for this May, let us focus on growth and change. In giving ourselves permission to enjoy impermanence.
Begin by simply becoming more comfortable wherever you are sitting, or standing, or lying down. Give yourself permission to fully and completely relax. Just verbalize that to yourself: “I give myself permission to relax”. And, just breathe as your body becomes more relaxed.
When you are ready, think back to a moment where you didn’t want something to change but it did. And, as a result, it was better. You can verbalize this to your subconscious, just by saying the following: “I give my subconscious the permission to remind me of a time when things turned out better than I thought”. You might get multiple flashes of memories, and just choose one. Or, you can let all of those memories play out. Perhaps, there was a time you didn’t want to go somewhere then you did and it turned out to be amazing. Perhaps, there was a time where you didn’t want to eat something but you did and it turned out to be amazing. These are the pleasant surprises in life. They make everything more interesting. They enliven moments.
And, now think about the future and giving yourself permission to grow more in whichever area of your life you want to focus on. If there’s something you’ve been trying to change but it doesn’t really want to change. Just give yourself permission to let that go. And, if there is something still you want to change in the future, give yourself permission to change it. Just by stating it: “I give myself permission to take that course; I give myself permission to take that trip; I give myself permission to…” Whatever that is, you fill in the blank.
And, from here on out, realize that the only person you have to ask permission is truly yourself. There is no parent, there is no teacher over you if you are an adult as you are listening to this. So, instead of asking someone outside of yourself for permission. Just look within, and say: “Okay, yes, I give myself permission to go, do, and be anything, everything I want to go do, and be. As this is said, so let it be, and so it is”.
This is Halo signing off, and I wish you all the very best.
